The 2025 runner-up for large employers, Eli Lilly and Company has been a BioSpace Best Places to Work winner four years in a row. Founded in 1876, with thousands of employees, Lilly ranked particularly highly among voters for reputation and innovation. The Indianapolis-based company has been making headlines throughout the year with their blockbuster diabetes and weight loss drugs Mounjaro and Zepbound.

Climbing the rankings from their 2024 placement, Sutro Biopharma has claimed the top spot as the Best Place to Work among small employers. Sutro scored highly in all attributes, with outstanding ratings in culture, diversity, equity and inclusion and innovation. Headquartered in South San Francisco, Sutro is a clinical-stage oncology company with multiple candidates in their pipeline including site-specific and novel-format antibody drug conjugates (ADCs).

This is their first appearance on BioSpace’s Best Places to Work list.

About Best Places to Work

Nominations for Best Places to Work were open throughout June 2024. Voting was conducted throughout August 2024. Best Places to Work includes responses from over 3,600 life sciences professionals. Respondents were asked to identify their top three most desirable life sciences companies, segmented by large (more than 1,000+ employees) and small (less than 1,000 employees) companies. Respondents were also asked to rate their top choice organizations on attributes including: compensation, innovation, career growth opportunities, leadership, culture, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), reputation and flexibility and remote work. Selections and rankings are based on survey data and information provided in nomination submissions. Companies cannot pay to appear on the list.
