Abbott Laboratories will look at manufacturing nutrition products and strengthening sales and distribution in India, as the country that is trying to manage the problems of diabetes and malnutrition offers a huge market for health supplements. The U.S. drug maker Monday inaugurated its first nutrition research and development center in India through a tie-up with a unit of Indian biotechnology company Biocon Ltd. . It wants to expand the capabilities to make its nutrition business fully integrated in India. “India is a growth area for us,” John Landgraf, executive vice president of Abbott’s global nutrition business, said in an interview. “We have research now. To be fully integrated, we will have everything from research to manufacturing to sales (in India).”
