SEATTLE, Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Koronis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that Donald Elmer, chairman and interim chief executive officer, will participate in a panel discussion "Infectious Disease: Next Wave of HIV drugs" at the BIO CEO & Investor Conference to be held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York, NY, on February 14-15, 2006.
The panel session will take place at 4 p.m. (EST) on Tuesday, February 14. The panel session will discuss the current HIV treatment landscape as well as review what's new and promising in the antiretroviral drug pipeline. In addition to Mr. Elmer, other panel participants will include Graham Allaway, Ph.D., chief operating officer, Panacos Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; Stanley Lewis, M.D., medical director, Tanox, Inc.; and Martin Markowitz, M.D., clinical director of the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center and associate professor, The Rockefeller University. The session will be moderated by Geoffrey Porges, vice president and senior research analyst, Sanford Bernstein.

Koronis is currently conducting a Phase 1b clinical trial of KP-1461, its novel anti-viral therapeutic, in HIV-positive patients. KP-1461 utilizes a new therapeutic approach called Viral Decay Acceleration, which works to eliminate a targeted virus by increasing the natural viral rate of mutation. KP-1461 may provide reduced toxicities and a treatment option for HIV patients who have failed, or become resistant, to other conventional therapeutics.
