GE Healthcare to Host DiPIA 2010 (Developments in Protein Interaction Analysis)

Uppsala, Sweden, 20th July 2010 - GE Healthcare, a unit of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), will host ‘DiPIA 2010’, a leading forum for discussion of the latest developments and trends in the field of biomolecular interaction and stability analysis, across the entire spectrum of biological research. The symposium will be held in Barcelona, Spain from 17-20 October at the Pullman Barcelona Skipper Hotel.

The conference will comprise a series of educational and scientific sessions, with in-depth oral presentations and poster sessions featuring leading scientists from industry and academia. Roundtable discussions will offer an opportunity for the around 250 delegates expected to attend to debate all of the latest developments in label-free molecular interaction analysis.

The scientific sessions will be organized around five main topic areas: • Fragment screening and small molecule drug discovery o Keynote speaker - Dr. Geoff Holdgate, Principle Scientist Biophysics Cells, Proteins & Structural Sciences Lead Generation - Discovery Capabilities & Sciences, AstraZeneca, UK: “Utilising tools from the Biophysics Toolbox in fragment based lead generation” • Structure-activity relationship o Keynote speaker - Dr. Ernesto Freire, Henry Walters Professor, Johns Hopkins University, USA: “Thermodynamics-Based Drug Design: A Faster Road to Success” • Functional protein networks and pathways o Keynote speaker - Prof. Dr. Friedrich W. Herberg, Department of Biochemistry, Kassel University, Germany: “Functional Analysis of Protein Interaction Networks in vitro and in vivo” • Novel approaches to biophysical characterization o Keynote speaker - Dr. David Myszka, Director, Center for Biomolecular Interaction Analysis, The University of Utah, USA: “Biacore- yeah it can do that!” • Vaccine and biotherapeutics drug discovery and development

Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in pre-conference tutorials addressing the use of Biacore™, MicroCal™ ITC and MicroCal DSC systems, as well as workshops providing educational and practical information on a range of application and methodology-related topics. The roundtable sessions will discuss subjects such as “Label-free solutions in fragment based drug discovery”, “Current trends in biotherapeutic development” and “Reliability and confidence in affinity measurements.”
