Greg Solomon, A-Life’s President and Chief Executive Officer, commented on the significance of this new capability: “Until now, customers that have been unable to gain access to physician notes and demographics from their clients’ hospitals in electronic form have been precluded from using our services. Our new scanning/OCR capability offers customers another means of data capture to deal with their paper-based information. Customers now can scan their paper documents and A-Life will take the images, apply our OCR and convert the information into electronic text for submission through Actus(TM) and our LifeCode(R) engine.”

Actus(TM) is a suite of applications developed and designed specifically for medical billing services. Today approximately 1,200 users at more than 200 sites nation wide utilize the service. The Actus(TM) Workstation allows coders to work from home or office by securely routing the physician note and patient demographics data via the Internet. After the medical coder has reviewed the physician note and results, the billing information is automatically uploaded to the organization’s billing system. All physician notes, patient information and billing information are then electronically archived. Currently, A-Life offers automated coding for radiology and emergency medicine.
