HARTLAND, Wis., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Camtronics Medical Systems, Ltd., a subsidiary of Analogic Corporation , announced today that Columbus Children’s Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, has signed an agreement to purchase and implement Camtronics’ Pediatric Cardiovascular Information System CardioIMS(R). The hospital’s Children’s Heart Center is the region’s largest congenital cardiac referral center, serving both children and adults with congenital heart disease.
CardioIMS was selected following an extensive technology evaluation process according to Eric Vaughn, Vice President of the Columbus Children’s Heart Center. “The Center’s clinical, administrative, and information services staff required immediate access to patient information located in a number of disparate systems. Our objective was to gain access to the hospital information systems for ADT, scheduling, orders from CPOE, results, and billing. We also needed to integrate with the Center’s modality reporting and imaging systems for echocardiography, cardiac cath, ECG, pathology, and surgery. CardioIMS brings all this information together into a single system and meets our objectives perfectly.”
Craig Fleishman, M.D., Medical Director of Cardiology Information Services, added, “We have worked with Camtronics’ VERICIS(R) EchoIMS(R) pediatric image management and reporting system for the past two years and wanted to see CardioIMS in operation.” The selection team visited Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston, Texas, where CardioIMS has been used for three years, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati, Ohio. “The opportunity to see the system in use and talk to current clinical users validated our impression that CardioIMS is ideally suited to support the workflow of our heart center,” Dr. Fleishman concluded.
According to Camtronics President Gene Bergholz, CardioIMS is a comprehensive information management solution that meets the highly specialized, yet shared needs of leading pediatric cardiology centers. “This unique system helps clinicians improve clinical care by providing immediate access to all patient information. In addition to supporting department-wide workflow improvements, CardioIMS also provides the administrative data and analysis tools required to support initiatives to increase revenue and reduce costs.”
CardioIMS is a browser-based information system that provides clinicians with efficient access to all relevant cardiology-specific information, including images, results, medications, and diagnoses. The system features tools such as scheduling, clinical and administrative reporting, document distribution, patient tracking, and results reporting to the hospital billing system.
Kelly Graf, Columbus Children’s Hospital’s Senior Information Services Project Manager, commented that Camtronics provided the hospital with documents clearly detailing the functionality of CardioIMS. She continued, “In addition, they provided an implementation plan to connect to the hospital’s current information and modality systems via HL-7 interfaces and URL access.” Ms. Graf highlighted that, as part of Camtronics’ consultative approach, all this work was completed before the agreement with Camtronics was signed. “This gave us a high degree of confidence in the rapid implementation and successful deployment of CardioIMS within the Children’s Heart Center.”
In summarizing the hospital’s rationale for choosing Camtronics’ pediatric solution, Mr. Vaughn explained that the CardioIMS system fills a gap in their information management strategy. “We wanted to gain a single point of entry to all pediatric cardiology patient information within the hospital without adding another layer of administration or another software solution onto the hospital’s IT infrastructure. CardioIMS allows us to access patient information from all our existing cardiology systems -systems that we were not prepared, or financially able, to replace.”
