Syrris Enters Contract With Chemglass Life Sciences

Royston, UK (13 July 2009) – Syrris, the leading chemistry automation product innovator, has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Chemglass Life Sciences (Chemglass) in the USA. As an experienced vendor of chemical reactor systems, Chemglass provides Syrris with the opportunity to work with their customer base to advance their existing reactor systems. Covering all Syrris batch reactor products, a network of 15 account managers will ensure excellent customer service is provided across the Syrris product portfolio.

Syrris’s automated chemistry systems greatly complement the existing range of Chemglass reactors. The Reactor Master product line, including the software, enables automation of the large install base of (previously manual) Chemglass reactors. Furthermore, the Atlas syringe pump is an excellent addition, enabling versatile volumetric dosing and/or sampling. This flexible system allows two independent refilling flows, one continuous flow, reaction sampling, intelligent control of pH and temperature dependent dosing.

The Atlas range of automated products allows highly sophisticated reactor control and automation. As such, the Atlas Calorimeter System is able to provide real time reaction power and enthalpy data. This safe, accurate and low-cost system is easy-to-use with both Heat Flow Calorimetry (HFC) and Power Compensation Calorimetry (PCC).

Syrris have worked in collaboration with both Bruker and Prosonix this year: The Atlas FT-IR System combines the technology of the Atlas automated reactor with Bruker Optics’ Matrix-MF, for in situ reaction monitoring; and the Atlas SonoLab™ System combines the Atlas jacketed reactor platform with Prosonix’s SonoLab ultrasound technology for reproducible control of crystallizations.

Syrris Limited

Established in 2001, Syrris Limited is one of the fastest growing science SMEs in the UK employing over 30 scientists and engineers at its facility in Royston (near Cambridge). Founders Mark Gilligan and Richard Gray come from a background of developing automation products for chemists at companies such as The Technology Partnership (TTP) and Mettler Toledo.

Syrris develops general productivity tools for chemists such as the Atlas automated chemistry systems. Atlas can be configured into a wide range of different systems including Lithium and Sodium for round bottom flasks (magnetically and overhead stirred respectively) and Potassium for jacketed vessels. Other Atlas systems, designed for specific applications, including calorimetry, volumetric dosing, gravimetric dosing, pH, etc, are also available.

Syrris also specialise in flow reactors for R&D chemists, including FRX: a low cost flow chemistry system and Africa (Automated Flow Reaction Incubation and Control Apparatus): a modular system for library synthesis, aqueous work-up and reaction optimization that will ultimately reduce the time taken to develop, synthesize, screen and review a chemical entity, thus vastly speeding up the drug discovery process.

In recognition of its technological achievements, Syrris has been awarded a prestigious UK DTI SMART Exceptional Grant. Syrris has also won a significant DTi MNT (Micro and Nano Technology) award which is being used to establish a new subsidiary called The Dolomite Centre Ltd. This new company is focused on design and fabrication of Microfluidic devices for a wide range of applications.

Chemglass Life Sciences

Chemglass Life Sciences is a privately held, women owned, distributor of scientific glassware and research equipment based in Vineland New Jersey. In early 2009, Chemglass Inc. became Chemglass Life Sciences to better reflect the markets that they currently serve.

Their manufacturing company, Chemglass Inc., was founded in 1946 and has grown to be the market leader in manufacturing scientific glassware in the United States.

With the addition of the Syrris automated reactor line along with a complete listing of HPLC vials and a new 150 page catalog of Life Science supplies and equipment , Chemglass Life Sciences is poised to remain on the forefront of scientific innovation for many years to come.
