Virtual care provides new innovative model in healthcare.
TORONTO, March 29, 2018 /CNW/ - While new models in finance, hospitality, and transportation have changed our daily habits, opportunities remain abundant to improve our health. With the announcement of their recent Sun Life partnership, Right Health is further embedding virtual care into the health and homes of Canadians.
Following a successful pilot garnering high user engagement and positive feedback with Sun Life employees, Right Health was selected as one of Sun Life’s first partners in virtual care. Akira is the platform and service within Right Health’s offering that clients can now opt into using the my Sun Life mobile app.
While most often the burden of navigating a complex health system and coordinating care falls on the shoulders of the individual, Akira offers a trusted, medically credible resource, right from your pocket. Patients are able to instantly connect to great Canadian doctors, nurse practitioners, and more - directly through the Akira app. Akira’s team of clinicians can help with diagnosing health concerns, writing prescriptions, issuing bloodwork and lab requisitions, making specialist referrals, and providing medical advice.
“Our virtual care team can address the majority of primary care visits through secure text or video chat,” said Dan Pawliw, Co-Founder of Right Health. “But, Akira is more than just a substitute for episodic visits to your physician. Instead of consulting Google for everyday health questions, people can text qualified medical professionals and get customized responses within seconds. We’re also making a meaningful impact by partnering with our clients on their nutrition, fitness, and mental health.”
“Canadians live busy lives. Tools like Akira help them access quick, convenient and reliable medical care,” said Dave Jones, Senior Vice-President, Group Benefits, Sun Life Financial Canada. “At Sun Life, we are continually looking for ways to blend technology and medicine to help our Clients live healthier lives.”
The Akira app is available for iPhone and Android devices and is available in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and the Northwest Territories. Care can be delivered in both English and French.
