June 8 Zurich, PFC Pharma Focus, an internationally recognized CRO, announces the launch of a new collaboration with Maccabi HealthCare Services, a leading not for profit HMO with almost 2 million subscribers. Together, they will provide integrated clinical research optimization services designed to better meet the needs of the pharmaceutical industry. Maccabi’s 15 years of database research experience enable PFC to leverage its 18 years of experience in clinical development to streamline clinical studies. Access to Maccabi’s robust, multidimensional clinical database and patient registries will significantly reduce the risks of clinical research and will shorten time to market.
“With the power of Maccabi’s rich database resources and cutting edge database research capabilities, PFC can now offer clients enhanced research planning services, including feasibility studies, patient profiling and real time automated patient recruitment tools. Maccabi’s database enables drug safety and outcomes studies, epidemiological studies, and pharmaco-economic research”, said Ran Frenkel, RPh, VP Business Development PFC Pharma Focus.
The database includes complete anonymized outpatient records from primary care and specialty physicians, laboratory results, comprehensive drug prescription and purchasing information, centralized digitized images and hospitalization data. Maccabi’s patient registries include diabetes, cardiovascular, infertility, hypertension, home care, oncology, psychiatry and anticoagulation treatment. Maccabi’s fully integrated electronic medical record permits customized queries to physicians to obtain additional information not routinely collected, while safeguarding patient confidentiality. Based on these cutting edge capabilities, Maccabi’s database research team has published extensively in the professional literature, including articles in: Annals of Epidemiology (2010); Archives of Internal Medicine (2009); Annals of Pharmacotherapy (2009); Clinical Therapeutics (2008); Journal of Clinical Epidemiology (2007); Preventative Medicine (2006).
“We are pleased that through this collaboration with Pharma Focus, Maccabi will be able to leverage its unique data resources and research experience to expedite the development of new drugs and treatments for our patients and people everywhere,” said Prof Ehud Kokia, MD, CEO of Maccabi HealthCare Services.
