ST. LOUIS, June 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sigma, a division of Sigma-Aldrich Corporation , a $1.4 billion Life Science and High Technology Company, has launched a new kit for the fluorescent quantification of proteins, FluoroProfile(TM) (FP0010) through an exclusive licensing agreement with the Australian company Fluorotechnics Pty Ltd. The technology is based on the novel fluorophore epicocconone identified by researchers at Fluorotechnics. This new approach to fluorescent quantification offers several advantages including: reversible covalent binding, large dynamic range, superior sensitivity, and exceptional emission stability. These improved performance characteristics are the result of extensive research by a team of scientists that developed the current kit employing this novel fluorophore in a convenient kit format.
The ability to bind to free amines reversibly in an aqueous environment make this the preferred method for quantification prior to mass spectrometry of precious small samples. Tolerance of buffering and solubilizing substances that interfere with other commonly used quantification methods eliminates the requirement of precipitation and risk of sample modification. Additionally, this quantification kit fits well into the integrated proteomics workflow offering from Sigma-Aldrich.
“Sigma has served the needs of scientists by providing a comprehensive offering of quantification reagents and kits to enable their research. Sigma continues to offer products that embody superior performance through internal development, continuous quality improvement and strategic collaborations. This new quantification kit launch indicates Sigma’s impressive capabilities and resources to take best-in-class products to a new level,” said George Lipscomb, Product Manager, Proteomics at Sigma-Aldrich Corporation.
