Ruth M. Rothstein Elected Chair Of Board Of Trustees Of Rosalind Franklin University Of Medicine And Science

NORTH CHICAGO, Ill., Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science announced today that Ruth M. Rothstein, recently retired chief of the Cook County Bureau of Health Services, has been elected to serve as chair of the Board of Trustees of the University, a 92-year-old institution dedicated to educating the next generation of healthcare professionals and to conducting leading-edge biomedical research.

With more than 40 years experience in the healthcare industry, Mrs. Rothstein most recently ran one of the nation's biggest public health departments, comprised of John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital, the Cook County Department of Public Health, Provident Hospital, Oak Forest Hospital and Ambulatory, Community Health Network, Cermak Health Services, and the Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center. Mrs. Rothstein had a pioneering role leading health and hospital services for the largest county in Illinois and one of the largest in the country.

Mrs. Rothstein is highly regarded throughout the national, state and local healthcare communities for her lifelong commitment to improving healthcare services to underserved and underprivileged people. She has been awarded several prestigious honors, including the Chicago Civic Federations' Lyman Gage Award for Individual Civic Achievement and the Chicago Institute of Medicine's Russe Citation for Compassion in Medicine.

In addition to her service to Rosalind Franklin University, Mrs. Rothstein serves or has served on numerous boards, commissions, and committees. She is active in the Jewish Women's Foundation and served as a vice president on the Jewish Federation board of directors.

Mrs. Rothstein has served on the Rosalind Franklin University board since 2001.
