ANN ARBOR, Mich., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The MichBio Expo 2005 announced today its keynote speakers for this year's two-day event. Alan R. Saltiel, Ph.D., Director of the Life Sciences Institute, Lothar Krinke, Ph.D., Senior Director of Medtronics Neurological, and Michigan State Senator, Valde Garcia will provide keynote addresses at the annual event.

Alan Saltiel and Lothar Krinke will open the event on Thursday, September 29th.
Senator Valde Garcia will be the closing keynote on Thursday, September 29th.
Alan R. Saltiel is the Director of the Life Sciences Institute at the University of Michigan. He is the John Jacob Abel Professor in Life Sciences as well as a professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Molecular Medicine & Genetics and the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology. Saltiel has built an international reputation as an expert on the hormone insulin, and its role in diabetes and cellular signaling. Prior to joining the University of Michigan, Saltiel was Distinguished Research Fellow and Senior Director of the Department of Cell Biology at Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Research Division (now Pfizer Global Research) in Ann Arbor.
Lothar Krinke is the Senior Director of Biosciences Technology Development at Medtronics Inc. Prior to joining Medtronics, Krinke was the Vice President for Business Development and Strategic Planning at Celera Genomics Group and worked at A.T. Kearney Inc., as a vice president in the pharmaceutical practice responsible for helping biopharmaceutical companies to develop research and development and marketing strategies.
Elected as the first Hispanic Senator in Michigan's history, Valde Garcia represents the 22nd District, which comprises Livingston, Shiawassee, and the southern portion of Ingham counties. The Senator serves on the Senate Appropriations committee and chairs two subcommittees: Commerce, Labor and Economic Development, as well as General Government. He also serves on the Community Health and Judiciary/Corrections subcommittees and is the vice chair of the Senate Finance committee.
