STOCKHOLM, November 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Stora Enso, a leading producer of pharmaceutical packaging boards, has launched Pharma DDSi , the first intelligent pharmaceutical packaging solution to use Cypak’s Compliancy Connection.
Compliancy Connection is a standard low-cost electronic module built around a single RFID microchip and is designed to be embedded in pharmaceutical packaging. Electronic sensors are printed onto the packaging to detect when a dose of medicine is removed.
Non-compliance is increasingly recognized as a major problem in health care. Experts believe that over 50% of people do not take their medication as prescribed, causing tens of thousands of avoidable admissions to hospitals and care homes.
There are many reasons for non-compliancy. Memory lapses result in people skipping a dose or even taking multiple doses. Some people worry about side-effects, others misinterpret the instructions on how to take the medication.
