CUREXO Technology Corporation Names Brent D. Mittelstadt as President & CEO

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- CUREXO Technology Corporation, pioneer in medical robotics and world leader in image-directed robotic products for orthopaedic applications, which is focused on marketing its ROBODOC® Surgical System, announced the addition of Brent D. Mittelstadt to its senior management team as President and Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Mittelstadt began research in surgical robotics in 1986 as a visiting research scientist at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center and is responsible for much of the early development of CT guided robotic systems for joint replacement surgery. In 1990, with initial investment from IBM, Mr. Mittelstadt co-founded Integrated Surgical Systems (ISS) to develop a surgical robot system to assist with hip and knee replacement surgery. In 2007, ISS with the approval of its shareholders transferred all of its assets to CUREXO Technology Corporation.

While at ISS, Mr. Mittelstadt served as Director of Surgical Applications, where he led the development and refinement of both the early pin based hip application, as well as the DigiMatch(TM) ROBODOC® Surgical System for Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA), which received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance in August, 2008.

After leaving ISS in June 2002, Mr. Mittelstadt took a position at Consensus Orthopedics (formerly Hayes Medical Inc.), where he was Director of Marketing. Mr. Mittelstadt was part of a “turn around” management team that was integral in transforming the company. When Mr. Mittelstadt first jointed Consensus Orthopedics, it was suffering from declining sales and a poor reputation in the market. Today, Consensus Orthopedics is achieving over 60% annual growth in revenue. While at Consensus Orthopedics, Mr. Mittelstadt was involved in the development of new implants and line extensions as well as re- designing the total knee instrumentation system to address changes in the joint replacement market.

Mr. Mittelstadt received a B.S. in Biology from the University of Arizona in 1984. He holds 8 patents and has published extensively in the field of Computer Assisted Orthopedic Surgery.

“We are very excited to have Mr. Mittelstadt as a member of our senior management team. The unique combination of his ROBODOC knowledge and our recent FDA clearance provides Mr. Mittelstadt an immense opportunity to lead the company into the next phase of commercializing our products into the U.S. market. Mr. Mittelstadt brings his vast robotic experience along with integrity and vision to the company,” stated Mr. Taehoon Kim, Chairman of CUREXO Technology Corporation.
