Cal’s prolific offense could prove troublesome for Gilead Sciences Inc. Well, not really.
The Foster City-based HIV, hepatitis C and cancer drug developer (NASDAQ: GILD) is paying $1,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Oakland for every touchdown that the University of California, Berkeley, football team scores. That’s for home and away games.
So the Golden Bears’ 33 touchdowns in just five games so far this season comes out to a $33,000 windfall for Boys and Girls Clubs. In the past two games alone, Cal has scored 16 touchdowns, including all five times the offense touched the ball in the second half of Saturday’s 60-59 victory at Washington State.
