Leavitt Partners’ Torch™ Insight launches new resource to project physicians leaving active practice

This new adaptation of Torch Insight will help strategists prepare for future recruitment and training.

SALT LAKE CITY, March 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Torch InsightTM, Leavitt Partners’ data platform that provides deep insights into health care markets and organizational characteristics of industry sectors, announced a new resource that allows users to see market- and practice-level projections of how many physicians, by specialty, will leave practices in coming years. This new adaptation of Torch Insight will help strategists prepare for future recruitment and training.

According to David Muhlestein, chief research officer at Leavitt Partners, “As payment and delivery models continue to evolve nationwide, health care executives need insight into the likely impact that physicians leaving their practices will have on their employed and affiliated physician workforce. By utilizing Torch Insight, leaders can create long-term plans around physician recruitment and training.”

As providers transition toward value-based payment arrangements and use accountable care organizations (ACOs) to organize care delivery, it is essential that they effectively manage the changes in their workforce. This includes understanding how physician work trends will affect patient attribution. Torch Insight’s estimates have been paired with CareJourney’s data on Medicare ACO-attributed lives to show how retirements may affect ACOs over the coming years.

“Leavitt Partners’ research provides insight on the risk of physician’s leaving active practice, offering a new lens with which to evaluate ACO performance, and we look forward to collaborating on ways to measure effective mitigation measures - from pairing physicians with dedicated teams focused on administering wellness visits and care transition services, to informing network design strategies,” said Aneesh Chopra, president of CareJourney.

During an exclusive session at the HIMSS Conference, David Muhlestein and Aneesh Chopra will present key findings and discuss implications from this analysis. A panel discussion “The Evolution of Our Physician Workforce: Implications for Future Recruitment and Training” will be held on Wednesday, March 7 at 4PM PST in conjunction with HIMSS 2018 in Las Vegas, NV. Please go to http://www.cvent.com/d/3tqybl to register for the session or to request information on the findings.
