United Physicians Granted 3rd Credentialing Certification By NCQA

BINGHAM FARMS, Mich., Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- United Physicians has received the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) physician organization (PO) certification for Credentialing and Recredentialing for the third consecutive two-year certification period. The certification is effective for the period December 12, 2004 - December 12, 2006. United Physicians is also certified by NCQA for Utilization Management for the period October 13, 2003 - October 13, 2005.

“NCQA credentialing and recredentialing certification has enabled United Physicians to negotiate and maintain delegated credentialing and recredentialing with all twelve of our contracted health plans,” said LaNita Gragg-Jennings, credentialing manager for United Physicians. “Our physician shareholders are enrolled in plans faster and no longer have to complete any credentialing paperwork. This is one of the important practice support services that we provide our shareholders.”

United Physicians is one of only three physician organizations nationwide to receive certification in multiple categories and is the first physician organization in Metropolitan Detroit to receive certification by NCQA in any category. The National Committee for Quality Assurance is an independent, non-profit organization that certifies Physician Organizations, and accredits Managed Care Organizations and Preferred Provider Organizations. NCQA’s certification process evaluates a physician organization’s ability to meet specific categories of NCQA standards and its capacity to accept delegated responsibilities. NCQA surveys are rigorous on and off-site evaluations conducted by a team of physicians and managed care experts. A national oversight committee of physicians analyzes the team’s findings and determines certification based on the PO’s performance compared to NCQA standards.
