Saint Joseph’s Hospital Selects Care Fusion For Patient Safety At The Point Of Care

MCLEAN, Va., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Care Fusion(R), a leading provider of enterprise positive patient identification solutions, announced an agreement today with Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta to provide Wireless BloodCare, a mobile barcode solution for verification of blood products prior to transfusion. Saint Joseph’s Hospital is known for its excellence in nursing and patient safety, having received the distinguished Magnet Recognition for Nursing Excellence from the American Nurses Association Credentialing Center three consecutive times since 1995, as well as HealthGrades’ Distinguished Hospital recognition for patient safety. The hospital chose Care Fusion to further improve the delivery of safe, efficient, high-quality patient care.

“The identification of the patient, through the use of wBloodCare(TM), makes verification of the blood product at the bedside much more secure,” said Kris Gregg, Director of the Laboratory at Saint Joseph’s.

Saint Joseph’s main objective is to improve patient safety. Respected for its expertise, Saint Joseph’s Hospital sought out a product that their nurses and patients could count on. They decided that a new technology would provide the best solution with their existing infrastructure.

“Care Fusion was able to integrate their FDA 510(k)-cleared wBloodCare product with two other computer systems that we currently use, enabling us to further reduce the technology risk and margin for error,” added Gregg.

wBloodCare(TM), the first product of its type to receive FDA 510(k) clearance, provides functionality for confirmation of the patient and blood product order, then completes a cross check of this information to the blood product prior to transfusion activity. This assures that the correct patient receives the correct blood product and matched unit.
