Eklin Medical Systems, Inc. and ImproMed Complete Seamless Integration of Digital Radiography and Practice Management Software
Published: Sep 17, 2008
SANTA CLARA, Calif. and OSHKOSH, Wisc., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Eklin Medical Systems and ImproMed, Inc. announced the companies have successfully integrated Eklin's RapidStart digital radiography (DR) system and RapidPACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System) web edition with ImproMed's Infinity practice management information system (PIMS) at mutual customers' veterinary care practices. The integration was enabled through use of the open DICOM standard, which allows seamless integration of products between digital technology vendors.
"We already had ImproMed's Infinity practice management software and wanted to purchase Eklin's DR system and PACS," said David Butler, DVM, Pet Vet, Franklin, Tennessee. "It was imperative that we could seamlessly integrate all of these systems and gain workflow efficiencies while minimizing data input error due to an enabled modality worklist. Both companies did an excellent job of planning and the integration was successfully completed without any issues."
DICOM protocols are the gold standard in the human medical field for digital imaging, image storage and data storage. The protocols are increasingly being demanded by veterinary practices as well.
"The integration of our Infinity, RapidPACS and RapidStart systems is a terrific example of the value of DICOM compliant architecture and has provided us a significant time savings," said Brad Fly, DVM, Nolensville Veterinary Hospital, Nolensville, Tennessee. "In the future, we only plan on purchasing digital imaging or software systems which are fully DICOM compliant. We will continue to look to companies such as Eklin and ImproMed which provide quality technology based on this critical criterion."
DICOM is the international standard for digital medical image file formats and for transferring these files between image acquisition devices (such as DR, ultrasound or CT), the PACS server and review workstations. Digital technologies, like DR, PACS and PIMS, which are built on published DICOM standards, allow practices to select products from multiple vendors that follow the same open standard and seamlessly integrate these other digital systems within the practice.
"Eklin and ImproMed both adhere to DICOM open standards due to the growing need for veterinary care practices to seamlessly integrate all of their digital imaging modalities and practice management software," said Ron Detjen, president of ImproMed. "Consequently, either of our installed client bases can easily connect to ImproMed or Eklin products. This gives our mutual clients complete freedom to choose between any DICOM compliant technologies."
