Massachusetts Biotechnology Council Names Thomas M. Finneran President

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MBC) announced today that it has named Massachusetts Speaker of the House Thomas M. Finneran as its President. Mr. Finneran will assume this role effective October 4, 2004.

MBC Chair Una Ryan, Ph.D., O.B.E., President and CEO of AVANT Immunotherapeutics, Inc. said, "After conducting an extensive search over the past few months, we are delighted to have Tom Finneran lead the MBC. Mr. Finneran represents Massachusetts' 12th Suffolk District, which includes sections of Dorchester, Mattapan, and Milton. He has been a member of the House of Representatives since 1979. From 1991 to 1996, Mr. Finneran served as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. He was first elected Speaker of the House in 1996. He holds a BS from Northeastern University and JD from Boston College.
