FLOWER MOUND, Texas, Sept. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American HealthChoice, Inc. , a medical services company with 40 owned and affiliated medical clinics in Texas and Tennessee, (http://www.americanhealthchoice.com), announced today that its TelmedCo Solutions subsidiary, under the leadership of President Peter Leonard, has now deployed eight TeleMedicine systems with four outside of the Company network.
TeleMedicine is a popular concept in Europe and Canada, but new in much of the U.S. It allows a physician to give a second opinion to a patient utilizing digital technology, including electronic stethoscopes, opthalmoscopes and otoscopes that virtually connect the patient to the doctor. It is an especially attractive benefit for rural areas where obtaining a second opinion from a qualified physician can be difficult.
"Peter has been charged with locating new sites and applications, plus coordinating the installation of our TeleMedicine systems," said Dr. J.W. Stucki, American HealthChoice Chairman and CEO. "He has exactly the background and expertise to grow this subsidiary, which will increase revenues for our Company."
Dr. Stucki said American HealthChoice sees enormous potential for TeleMedicine, including in home health care, for rural areas, and even as a way to serve Third World Nations or nations where health care is lacking. "Peter and I are attending the American Telemedicine Association's Fall Forum currently, an excellent opportunity to seek strategic alliances and to develop ways to grow TeleMedicine. We believe this can have a very positive impact on American HealthChoice," Dr. Stucki said. The conference is at the Desert Springs Resort, Palm Springs, September 11-13.
Mr. Leonard has 19 years experience in computer technology, telecommunications and partnerships with major telecommunications firms and the defense industry. He has traveled extensively in Europe and throughout America establishing partnerships and solving complex telecommunications issues, often involving many cultural boundaries.
"We are confident our system provides real benefits to patients in our clinics and we are looking forward to expanding it both in Texas and Tennessee," Mr. Leonard said.
