ZONARE Medical Systems, Inc. Expands Operations Into Nordic Countries

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 20 /PRNewswire/ -- ZONARE Medical Systems, a developer of next-generation ultrasound technology, announced the opening of the company’s new subsidiary, ZONARE Medicinska System AB, today. The new entity will market and service ZONARE’s z.one ultrasound unit, the world’s first Convertible Ultrasound(TM) system, throughout all Nordic countries.

“The z.one system is based on revolutionary new Zone Sonography(TM) technology which has made it possible to offer the world’s first Convertible Ultrasound system,” said Gunnar Arveheim, Managing Director, ZONARE Medicinska System AB. “This is the introduction of the fifth generation of diagnostic ultrasound, which offers an excellent value both economically and clinically. Now our customers can purchase a premium ultrasound system and basically get two systems for the price of one. Since my team and I previously introduced the second, third and fourth generation ultrasound technology in the Nordic countries, we could not resist the opportunity to also introduce this exciting new fifth generation.”

ZONARE’s subsidiary will be located in Stockholm, Sweden. Arveheim has been in the field of ultrasound for more than 30 years. He and his colleagues introduced the second generation ultrasound systems for ATL (now Philips) in the Nordic region in the end of 1970s. In 1984, he pioneered the Acuson (now Siemens) 128 Computed Sonography ultrasound system in the region later accepting a position as Nordic Regional Manager and Director of the four Acuson subsidiries in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark. During his tenure, Arveheim also established Acuson’s fourth generation Sequoia platform as the market leader in the Nordic region. He is joined by other long-time ultrasound professionals including Ake Larsen.

The z.one system is based on revolutionary Zone Sonography technology. This new architecture has allowed ZONARE Medical Systems to bring the first Convertible Ultrasound(TM) platform to the industry with superb image quality at a substantial price to value ratio. Clinicians are able to instantly convert the z.one platform from a full-featured, cart-based system into a premium compact, ultrasound system with all the performance of substantially larger and more expensive ultrasound units, yet, with greater portability and clinical flexibility than conventional compact systems.

Combining a fundamentally new advance in ultrasound, Zone Sonography technology coupled with the z.one platform’s radically new physical design provides the maximum flexibility offering significant clinical and workflow solutions for a wide variety of customer challenges. The z.one platform’s Zone Sonography software-based architecture ensures that its performance will increase as improvements in processing power become available. This allows for fast, convenient upgrades in clinical capabilities, keeping clinicians at the forefront of diagnostic capabilities as well as protecting their investment. With ZONARE’s latest release, upgrades can now be downloaded via the internet, another industry first.

“I believe Zone Sonography is one of the most important breakthroughs in ultrasound technology to be introduced in the past several years,” said Torbjorn Andersson, MD, head of the Radiology Department of the University Hospital in Orebro, Sweden and professor, “In addition to enabling a premium compact ultrasound system, the technology architecture captures the data so quickly, that all the raw data can be saved and stored, unlike conventional ultrasound systems. This presents exciting research and clinical opportunities which could open up an entirely new era in ultrasound.”
