SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- IMPAC Medical Systems Inc., an Elekta company and a leading provider of oncology information technology solutions, today awarded the 2007 IMPAC Registrar of the Year award to Brad Kirby, MPH, CTR, Cancer Registry Supervisor/Oncology Research Coordinator, Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, Virginia.
IMPAC's Registrar of the Year program honors outstanding registrars who make valuable contributions to the success of the registry and who extend their contributions to benefit the broader medical facility and community. This year IMPAC received a record 70 nominations for over 50 nominees, all of whom demonstrated an impressive overall level of professionalism and expertise.
Brad Kirby is recognized for his exceptional service to Riverside Regional Cancer Center over the past five years. Now responsible for most of Riverside's cancer-related Oncology Quality Improvement activities, Kirby has a growing interest in increasing the utilization and quality of Cancer Registry data, and is writing a paper on the subject. Additionally, Kirby has helped the Riverside Tree of Life Cancer Care Fund's fundraising efforts by collecting over $600 USD through his adult kickball team. The Riverside Tree of Life Cancer Care Fund, sponsored by the Riverside Cancer Care Center, provides services such as transportation, testing, and research to assist cancer patients in need.
"It's wonderful to have the privilege to work with such an extraordinary cancer care team at Riverside Regional Medical Center, which strives to improve the quality of their cancer programs by utilizing a wide variety of data sources (including the cancer registry) to identify areas for improvement," said Kirby after learning of his award. "Riverside is on the cutting edge when measuring quality in cancer care and I am lucky enough to have been able to help develop and track some of these indicators from their inception. Very few hospitals in the country utilize the registry as much as Riverside and I am very proud to work with such an amazing organization to improve cancer care in Hampton Roads."
"IMPAC is pleased to recognize Brad Kirby as the 2007 IMPAC Registrar of the Year," said Jay Hoey, IMPAC president and CEO. "Brad is an exceptional registrar who makes a significant contribution to his registry and community, actively expanding his knowledge and skills to ensure that the registry optimizes data quality and utilization. His involvement and success are admirable and terrific examples to others in the field."
IMPAC would also like to announce the recipient for honorable mention: Dianna Wilson, RHIA, CTR, Cancer Registry Coordinator, Medical Center of South Arkansas, El Dorado, Arkansas.
