Computer Sciences Corporation Wins $276 Million New York Department Of Health Agreement To Continue Support For Medicaid System

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., June 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Computer Sciences Corporation announced today that the New York Department of Health has extended its contract for the state’s Medicaid Management Information System, known as eMedNY. The original contract was awarded in 2000 to develop and operate the award-winning processing and reporting system. The new three-year agreement is valued at approximately $276 million.

Under the new contract, CSC will continue to serve as the fiscal agent for New York’s Medicaid program, processing more than 100 million eligibility verification requests, 350 million claims and payments in excess of $43 billion annually for New York Medicaid providers. CSC supports statewide eligibility verification, claims processing and the New York Medicaid Web site. Additionally, CSC manages the program’s large data center operations; the statewide provider telecommunications network and call center, which handles and receives nearly a million telephone calls a year from Medicaid providers; and the claims processing unit that performs digital imaging and data conversion of paper documents. The critical systems, including eligibility verification, service authorization and pharmacy claims processing, are provided on a 24x7x365 basis.

“The eMedNY system is the largest, most complex and most technically sophisticated Medicaid solution in the nation,” said James Sheaffer, president of CSC’s Federal Sector business unit. “We are honored to have been selected to continue our relationship with New York’s Department of Health. This award illustrates the Department’s confidence in our ability to deliver sound operational results, which have produced millions of dollars in cost savings and many administrative advances.”

Teaming with CSC is Bull Systems Inc., of Bellerica, Mass., which provides the data warehouse for the Medicaid program. In 2004 the eMedNY data warehouse received the Enterprise Architecture Award from the National Association of State Chief Information Officers, an organization representing chief information officers and information resource executives and managers from the 50 U.S. states, six U.S. territories and the District of Columbia.

In April, the eMedNY systems passed an exhaustive certification review by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The New York State Department of Health is responsible for the state’s entire Medicaid program, which is administered by the Office of Medicaid Management. More than four million recipients receive critical health services through this program, and more than 60,000 medical providers participate in providing their services.
