HealthAmerica And HealthAssurance Contract With Six Tenet Healthcare Hospitals In Southeastern Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG, Pa., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthAmerica and HealthAssurance have signed an agreement with six key hospitals in Philadelphia and Bucks counties owned and operated by a subsidiary of Tenet Healthcare Corporation .

The two-year agreement, with automatic annual renewals, greatly enhances the health plans’ service area expansion in southeastern Pennsylvania. HealthAmerica received approval to expand its service area in southeastern Pennsylvania in 2003 and has been building a network of health care providers in the region since that time. It anticipates continued network development activity throughout 2004.

The six hospitals that make up Tenet Pennsylvania are:

Hahnemann University Hospital. This 618-bed academic medical center specializes in cardiac services, heart failure and transplantation, OB/GYN services, orthopedics, oncology, and specialized transplantation services, including bone marrow, kidney, pancreas, and liver. Hahnemann was Philadelphia’s first Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center for adults and is affiliated with Drexel University College of Medicine.

Graduate Hospital. A 303-bed clinical teaching hospital, Graduate has four intensive care units and an emergency department, as well as a wide range of inpatient and outpatient diagnostic and treatment facilities. The Tuttleman Center houses the Cancer Program, which includes a radiation oncology component, the Imaging Center with MRI and CT capabilities, Nuclear Medicine, the Graduate Pain Center, and a Same-Day Surgery unit.

St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. As a 161-bed pediatric hospital, St. Christopher’s provides a wide range of pediatric medical and surgical specialties through its affiliation with Drexel University College of Medicine. St. Christopher’s Hospital is a regional Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and specializes in kidney and liver transplantation, neo-natal intensive care, burn treatment, cystic fibrosis and pulmonary disease, minimally invasive surgery, and open-heart surgery for children. In July 2003, St. Christopher’s was again recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best pediatric hospitals in America.

Medical College of Pennsylvania (MCP) Hospital. An academic medical center located on Henry Avenue in Philadelphia.

Roxborough Memorial Hospital. A 125-bed community hospital, Roxborough has been serving the health care needs of surrounding neighborhoods for more than a century. In addition to general medicine and surgical treatment, the hospital offers inpatient physical rehabilitation, the Elder Center for Behavioral Health, the Comprehensive Wound Healing Center, and a sleep laboratory. The hospital’s School of Nursing has been training professional nursing staff since 1898.

Warminster Hospital. This 145-bed acute care community hospital serves the medical and health care needs of central Bucks and eastern Montgomery Counties. In addition to its Orthopedic Institute, Vascular Institute, and the Comprehensive Wound Care program, clinical specialties of the hospital include transfusion-free medicine and surgery, skilled emergency care, cardiac catheterization, inpatient physical medicine and rehabilitation, and behavioral health services for adults and seniors. Outpatient programs include cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary rehabilitation, stress testing, EKG, EEG, and mammography.
