BLOOMFIELD, Conn., July 20, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CIGNA HealthCare announced today that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Managed Care Consultants (MCC) of Nevada. The acquisition will give CIGNA HealthCare a local presence in Nevada and an office in the Las Vegas area responsible for business operations in the state. As part of the deal, CIGNA HealthCare will retain existing customers of MCC, who will continue to access the network based on their current arrangements or choose from a wide range of additional solutions offered by CIGNA HealthCare. Currently, CIGNA HealthCare has nearly 70,000 members in Nevada and the acquisition of MCC will enable the company to further serve this growing market with its CIGNATURE(SM) suite of products that includes CIGNA ChoiceFund(SM) HSA and HRA options.
MCC is a privately-held company offering network access for employers and plan sponsors through three provider networks (the MCC, Horizon and Health Alliance networks), which include more than 3,600 physicians, 31 hospitals and an array of ancillary providers. In addition to a stronger, more integrated network that is now part of CIGNA HealthCare, Nevada-based customers will also gain expanded access to CIGNA HealthCare’s clinical leadership and expertise in disease management, health promotion and clinical results reporting.
“CIGNA HealthCare is committed to offering Nevada employers quality health care products that are flexible and affordable,” states Jeff Terrill, western region general manager for CIGNA HealthCare. “We are excited about the opportunities that exist in Nevada to offer employers national solutions as they grow their businesses within the state and in other markets. Adding a local office gives us stronger leadership presence in the state and we look forward to enhancing the value of the MCC networks and strengthening the depth and breadth of the network design options we offer as part of our product portfolio.”
“We are pleased to sell our business to CIGNA HealthCare and become part of a strong, national company committed to quality and service,” adds Joe Lawrence, current president of MCC. “The company’s strong clinical management, product innovation, informatics and dedication to improving the health and wellness of their members were instrumental factors in making the decision to sell our business to CIGNA HealthCare.”
Over the next few weeks, CIGNA HealthCare leaders will work closely with MCC staff to transition and integrate MCC employees and operations into CIGNA HealthCare. Additional hires may occur as required to support CIGNA HealthCare’s operational needs in the state.
