DENVER, Jan. 3, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Aytu Women’s Health, a wholly owned subsidiary of Aytu BioScience focused on improving personal health and sexual wellness for women, announced that Menopause, the journal of the North American Menopause Society, has published their proof-of-concept study evaluating the efficacy of Fiera, a women’s personal care device developed to enhance libido in both premenopausal and postmenopausal women. The article, co-authored by Irwin Goldstein, MD, Leah Millheiser, MD, and Sue Goldstein, was published in the November 2017 edition. The primary aim of the study was to determine the degree of genital engorgement, as measured by thermography, resulting from Fiera use. Secondarily, the time to onset of self-reported genital arousal as well as endorsement of sexual desire resulting from Fiera were also measured.

In the study, fourteen premenopausal and twelve postmenopausal women participated in a single-visit procedure that consisted of wearing Fiera on the vulva for fifteen minutes. An infrared camera was used to establish both baseline and post-Fiera vulvar skin temperatures. The results showed that use of Fiera in both the premenopausal and postmenopausal participants produced statistically significant increases in temperature- a marker of increased genital blood flow and engorgement. On average, the participants experienced genital arousal (a feeling of warmth, tingling, fullness) after five minutes of using Fiera while one hundred percent of the participants reported that they felt “in the mood for sexual activity” either during or after use of Fiera.

“As women approach the midlife change, they experience a normal decline in the hormones estrogen and testosterone, which often has a negative impact on sexual function, including lowered libido,” says Leah Millheiser, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor of OB/GYN and Director of the Female Sexual Medicine Program at Stanford University. “Through Fiera’s proprietary combination of gentle suction and stimulation, a state of genital arousal occurs which, in turn, triggers responsive sexual desire in the brain. This allows a woman to be ready for intimacy with her partner when she wants to be, thereby strengthening emotional intimacy in her relationship. Fiera stands out from most sexual health products on the market because there is published scientific data to support its use. This was an important consideration for the women and sexual health expert co-creators.
