HACKENSACK, N.J., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DOV Pharmaceutical, Inc. announced today that its Senior Director of Pharmacology, Dr. Anthony Basile, will present a poster entitled "Bicifadine: Preclinical Characteristics of a Novel, Non-Opioid Analgesic" on November 5, 2005, at the 8th International Conference on the Mechanisms and Treatment of Neuropathic Pain in San Francisco.
The poster illustrates the broad spectrum of analgesic activity produced by bicifadine in a variety of animal models that are predictive of efficacy treating acute and chronic pain states. For example, bicifadine is a potent analgesic following oral administration as measured by the Randall Selitto and formalin tests. Both procedures are commonly used to assess the effectiveness of drugs in the treatment of acute pain. Moreover, bicifadine reduces both mechanical hyperalgesia and allodynia following spinal nerve ligation in rats ("Chung Model") and mechanical hyperalgesia produced by experimentally-induced diabetes, two well-established models of neuropathic pain. These findings indicate that bicifadine may be effective in treating many of the painful symptoms produced by diabetes and other conditions resulting in peripheral neuropathies. Bicifadine is a novel norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake inhibitor, non-narcotic analgesic currently in Phase III clinical trials for the treatment of both acute and chronic pain conditions.
The poster will be archived and available in the investor relations section of DOV's website: http://www.dovpharm.com after the conference for 90 days.
