Merge Healthcare Announces Clinical Application Partnership With Center For Diagnostic Imaging (CDI)

MILWAUKEE, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Merge Technologies, d.b.a. Merge Healthcare, a healthcare software and services company, today announced that Center for Diagnostic Imaging (CDI), a chain of thirty-three imaging centers with locations in Minnesota, Florida, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri and Washington, has purchased Cedara PET/CT software from Merge eMed, a Merge Healthcare company, for use in its imaging centers. “We are very impressed with the depth of Merge’s clinical application imaging capabilities, resulting from the merger between Merge and Cedara,” said Steve Fischer, Chief Information Officer of CDI. “We are excited about implementing Cedara PET/CT software, and are looking at the clinical efficacy and workflow advantages of other advanced imaging software products available to us through our partnership with Merge. CDI is committed to the acquisition and deployment of technologies that allow us to best serve our radiologists, referring physicians and patients, as well as maximize our productivity. We are pleased to have Merge as a partner in fulfilling that commitment.”

“We are honored to expand our partnership with CDI by broadening the definition of RIS/PACS to include clinical application software,” said Richard Linden, President and CEO of Merge Healthcare. “This opportunity is representative of Merge’s strategy to expand the portfolio of software applications to our end-user healthcare customers by leveraging the clinical application development and innovation strength of Cedara Software. We are excited about this first of many steps forward into the clinical application market.”

PET/CT imaging has become popular in medical imaging environments because of its ability to concurrently visualize anatomical and physiological characteristics of the human body. In oncology, for example, PET/CT imaging is used to view tumour activity in conjunction with anatomical references, allowing physicians to better understand the effects of cancer treatment(s). Combined PET/CT imaging is also useful in small organ diagnosis, where tumor boundaries can be difficult to discern.

Cedara PET/CT Workstation software is designed as a plug-in clinical application that can be integrated into existing PACS and RIS/PACS systems, for use by healthcare professionals as a workstation, and for OEM Medical Imaging companies as an integrated component of their product offering. Merge eMed will demonstrate Cedara Software clinical applications for the end user market, as well as Merge eMed’s core RIS/PACS solutions, at the Radiological Society of North America in the Merge eMed booth, #1918.
