DETROIT, July 5 /PRNewswire/ -- An auditing function that helps to identify and mitigate project risks has won Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan second place in the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association’s Best of Blue Internal Audit Awards program.
The program was established this year to recognize Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans from across the country which have demonstrated innovation and excellence in the field of internal auditing. Only two awards -- first and second place -- were given.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s award was for the project auditing function provided by Business Risk Services, a department within the company’s General Audit Division. A consultative arm of the information technology audit function, BRS ensures controls around capital and discretionary spending and assists management in mitigating corporate risk exposures.
BRS provides four component services that can be delivered individually or in combination, depending on the inherent level of project risk: project oversight, risk assessment, tests of controls, and lessons learned. The benefits of these services include documented and prioritized project risks, documented project controls, and improved communication both internally and with key external audiences.
Michele Samuels, Blues vice president and general auditor, said “we are proud to win this award, and particularly proud that both judges said this project is applicable to all organizations wishing to manage cost and successfully roll out many different types of projects.”
