CORONA, Calif., July 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc. , a leading specialty pharmaceutical company, announced today the appointment of James A. Nash, 54, as Executive Vice President, Supply Chain, responsible for manufacturing operations and quality assurance for Watson’s business. He will report to Joseph Papa, Watson’s President and Chief Operating Officer. The Company’s compliance function concerning the quality initiatives at the Company’s Corona, CA manufacturing site will continue to report to Watson’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Allen Chao, Ph.D. Mr. Nash is expected to join the Company on August 16, 2004.

Mr. Nash brings extensive operational experience to the Watson organization, particularly in the areas of process development, technical operations, manufacturing systems, quality operations, materials management, and engineering.
Mr. Nash began his pharmaceutical career in 1977, joining Searle Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a division of Monsanto. Having gained experience in all facets of supply chain, Mr. Nash became General Manager, Searle Chemicals, Inc., and Senior Corporate Redesign, with profit and loss responsibility for the chemical team as well as leadership of the corporate redesign initiative, which resulted in significant changes to the corporate operating model. Following completion of this initiative, Mr. Nash was named Vice President, Manufacturing, with global manufacturing operations responsibility for drug substance and drug product, including 13 U.S. locations, Latin America and Europe. From Searle, he joined Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc., as Senior Vice President, Technical Operations, responsible for developing the technical infrastructure for process development, manufacturing, and quality operations. While there, he was also the interim Head of Development, including clinical operations. He subsequently joined Chiron Corporation, his most recent organization, where he had global responsibility as Senior Vice President, Technology Development and Operations, BioPharmaceuticals.
Mr. Nash received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from Northwestern University.
