The IPO Year of 2005

January 4, 2006 -- The good thing about biotech IPOs in 2005 is that there were some. In fact, 16 biotech companies managed to come public, but 7 companies filed and then withdrew their applications, a full 30% of the total number of filers. A total of 16 biotech IPOs is almost a 50% decline from the 30 biotech companies that were part of the 2004 coming out party. And of course, of those who filed, virtually every one of them had to accept lower terms than they first proposed.
