Study Concludes Primary IGF-1 Deficiency Is A Frequent Cause Of Short Stature

Data presented by UCLA researcher Dr. Pinchas Cohen at the Pediatric Academic Societies’ 2005 annual meeting in Washington, D.C., demonstrated that non-growth hormone deficient primary insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) deficiency (Primary IGFD) is a frequent cause of short stature among patients currently classified as having idiopathic short stature, or short stature with no known cause. The authors concluded that Primary IGFD should be recognized as a diagnostic subset separate from idiopathic short stature.
