Medical News Today -- In a groundbreaking tissue engineering procedure, doctors in the US used the patient’s own stem cells to help a 14-year old boy with a rare rare genetic condition that left him with underdeveloped and partly missing cheekbones grow new facial bone. They say the successful operation vastly increases the reconstructive surgery options available to patients with facial bone disfigurements, including those who have been in car accidents, soldiers injured in battle, and also patients with inherited diseases.
