An international team of researchers has pinpointed a defective gene which causes Parkinson’s disease. The discovery could open up new avenues of research for preventing or delaying the onset of the disease and may one day lead to an effective treatment or new drug. The gene - PARKS8 - encodes a protein which researchers named dardarin from the Basque word dardara, which means tremour. A major symptom of Parkinson’s disease is tremours. Scientist studied five families with a history of Parkinson’s who lived in the Basque region of Spain as well as in England.
