CHICAGO and SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- IMPAC Medical Systems, Inc., an Elekta Company, recently announced the introduction of an update (version 1.6) for its MOSAIQ(R) image-enabled oncology information system that will support OBI Advanced Imaging, Varian’s new OBI workstation software. Among support available with MOSAIQ(R)1.6 is the ability to automatically import CBCT images generated on Varian treatment machines.

Both companies worked together with St. Mary Corwin Hospital to coordinate the upgrade process. “
“Having CBCT images available for viewing in the MOSAIQ(R) oncology information system is a great asset,” according to Greg Gibbs, M.Sc., medical physicist at St. Mary Corwin Hospital (Pueblo, Colo.), the clinical site for testing the compatibility of the MOSAIQ and OBI Advanced Imaging software.
“Cone beam images are analogous to port films, which we have kept in MOSAIQ(R) for medical and legal purposes as a record of where we treated,” Gibbs notes. “So, having the ability to import CBCT images into the patient’s EMR contributes to the completeness of the EMR from a documentation standpoint.”
“In addition,” he continues, “clinicians now can access CBCT datasets remotely at their convenience, instead of always having to visit the control area - we now can import CBCT images, which is a much better solution.”
IMPAC also is working with Varian to support the RapidArc product and have plans to upgrade a mutual customer in late August of 2008.
