Drug treatment appears to prevent the heart damage that is a major drawback of a medical miracle in childhood cancer, researchers report.In 1970, 90 percent of children who were diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the leading cause of pediatric cancer, died within five years. Today, 90 percent of them are alive and apparently cured because of a multiple drug regimen that works wonders.
