CMA welcomes federal action plan to secure personal protective equipment for health care workers

The Canadian Medical Association welcomes the Government of Canada’s decision to mobilize businesses and manufacturers to urgently produce personal protective equipment and other critical supplies needed to combat COVID-19.

OTTAWA, March 20, 2020 /CNW/ - The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) welcomes the Government of Canada’s decision to mobilize businesses and manufacturers to urgently produce personal protective equipment (PPE) and other critical supplies needed to combat COVID-19.

The action plan, and the response from industry and the innovation sector, speak to Canada’s ingenuity and agility to protect health care workers and ensure Canadians receive the best possible care. Securing an adequate supply of PPE, diagnostic and testing products, and disease tracking technology, are critical components of an effective response to the pandemic.

Earlier this week, the CMA outlined key priorities to respond to COVID-19. Ensuring an adequate supply of PPE was outlined as a priority recommendation, given concerns raised by health professionals across the country.

The CMA continues to work closely with all key stakeholders, including the federal government and health care organizations, to optimize a coordinated response to this pandemic.
