Cancer Therapy Targets Stem Cells

A cancer treatment has been developed that could rid the body of the disease by homing in on its stem cells. A new technology targets the root cause of malignant cancers, while leaving surrounding normal cells unharmed. Although current treatments like chemotherapy can be effective at destroying cancer tumours, they cannot completely kill cancer stem cells. The break-through technology was developed by scientists at Cambridge and Kumamoto University in Japan. The growth of many malignant tumours depends on stems cells particular to certain cancers and the new treatment targets these.
