St. Louis, MO (May 2, 2012) -- Biomedical Systems has completed the acquisition of the assets and expertise of Symfo, a global electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePRO) provider. This acquisition solidifies Biomedical Systems position as an innovative research partner to pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device companies conducting Phase I to IV clinical studies or post-marketing surveys. Symfo’s robust and proven technology provides reliable patient data to improve patient compliance, data quality and efficiency in the medical device and drug development process.
The acquisition signals a move for Biomedical Systems from traditional paper-based reporting to a centralized electronic system for the collection of data in medical research. Biomedical Systems’ efforts meet current demands from the U.S. and European regulatory authorities, such as the Food and Drug Administration and European Medicines Agency, to use technology to improve data reliability. In response to current industry trends and the growing importance of PRO instruments, Biomedical Systems now provides consulting services for developing, validating, migrating and deploying PRO instruments in any therapeutic area ensuring clinical trials will meet regulatory expectations and guidance. Biomedical’s Chairman Ray Barrett says his company plans to capitalize on the acquired technology and the PRO and ePRO market potential, by further expanding staff and Biomedical’s global presence in clinical trials. “Innovation is the hallmark of Biomedical Systems,” said Barrett. “We are committed to delivering the very best diagnostic services to our global clients conducting research to improve the human condition. We believe that more efficient and accurate data capture is essential to help health care organizations speed and improve drug discovery and medical device development and reduce costs.”
