RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Quintiles Transnational Corp. today announced the appointment of Oren Cohen, M.D., as Chief Medical and Scientific Officer, effective immediately.
As Chief Medical and Scientific Officer, Dr. Cohen will serve as Quintiles’ lead medical expert and will represent the company’s positions on many government policy issues.

Dr. Cohen joined Quintiles in March 2001 as Director of Medical and Scientific Services for Infectious Diseases and Oncology. In September 2003, he was named Vice President and Medical Director for Quintiles’ Northeastern United States region.
Before joining Quintiles, Dr. Cohen held several positions of increasing responsibility at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) near Washington, D.C. NIAID conducts and supports basic and applied research to better understand, treat and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic and allergic diseases.
Dr. Cohen is author or co-author of more than 50 articles in textbooks and peer-reviewed medical journals, and he received several awards for his contributions to the work of NIAID and NIH. He graduated Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass. He received his M.D. from Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, N.C. He served his internship and residency at The New York Hospital - Cornell Medical Center, where he became a clinical instructor. He completed his fellowship in Infectious Diseases at NIAID. While working at Quintiles, Dr. Cohen also has served as Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the George Washington University Medical Center in Washington.
