Microbial Robotics’ New Genetics Rights Management Tool Enters International Markets With Patent Filing

CINCINNATI, Nov. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Microbial Robotics, a biotechnology firm developing enhanced bacteria (BactoBots) and viruses (ViruBots), announced the publication of its Genetics Rights Management (GeRM) international patent application under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).

A description of the GeRM system is located at http://microbialrobotics.com/genetics-rights-management-germ/.

The published PCT patent application, “Compositions, Systems and Methods for Protecting Genetically Modified Organisms from Unauthorized Use or Release into the Environment,” is at: http://patentscope.wipo.int/search/en/detail.jsf?docId=WO2014145346.

Microbial Robotics’ CEO, Jason E. Barkeloo, stated, “GeRM provides us with a competitive advantage in the synthetic biology industry. Our BactoBots need non-toxic, consumable, and low cost GeRM molecular keys in order to survive. If the keys are absent, the organisms stop growing and eventually die.”

Instead of moving genetically modified organisms (GMO) across borders, GeRM enables an open-like business model where local market experts can assemble, manufacture and distribute BactoBots and ViruBots under the development plan provided by Microbial Robotics. GeRM provides partners the ability to protect their products with a recurring revenue consumable system and globally export the turnkey knowledge to manufacture BactoBots.

Bacmine’s CEO Pablo Pomposiello said, “The GeRM system is an integral part of a new model of biotech product commercialization that expedites prototyping, simplifies testing on the field and streamlines commercial transactions. Moreover, GeRM provides a triple safety barrier: it protects the seller from unauthorized reproduction, protects the buyer from theft and protects the environment from accidental release.”

Dr. Shengchang Su, Director of BactoBot engineering, added, “The GeRM is built on well-designed and functional synthetic biological circuits incorporated into the genome of organisms, creating a unique and durable cellular key lock system to govern the fate of cells. It should have broad prospective applications in the biology industry.”

Proof-of-Concept prototype version 1.0 is available at http://microbialrobotics.com/germ/.

Barkeloo finished, “Similar to Coca Cola’s® secret syrup, GeRM enables local market experts to profit from product manufacturing and distribution of BactoBots. In turn, we reduce our risks and costs in achieving a global distribution system.”

In summary, GeRM keys, available by the ton and priced by the kilogram, introduce a new business model to the synthetic biology industry that reduces market risks and shortens the return-on-investment (ROI) timeline.

About Microbial Robotics LLC

A global biotechnology firm, Microbial Robotics uses patented and proprietary technologies to develop synthetic biology-based products. The Company discovers and develops enhanced organisms that include algae (AlgalBots), bacteria (BactoBots), fungi (FungalBots), protists (ProtistBots) and viruses (ViruBots). These organism-based “bots” produce, build, sense, and perform functions for the water, energy, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries. When a MicrobialBot technology is developed, its proof-of-concept, product development plan, and intellectual property are placed into a branded subsidiary. That subsidiary gains an acquiring industry expert for leading the product to market.

The Company’s biotechnology products are protected by a consumable genetics rights management (GeRM) system. The GeRM system is a consumable additive that prevents theft or release.

The Company is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio with laboratory operations in Covington, Kentucky and Madrid, Spain via its strategic partner, Bacmine SL (www.bacmine.com).
