International Quality & Productivity Center Conference Explores Polymorphism & Crystallization: Developing Stable Polymorphs And Protecting Intellectual Property

NEW YORK, Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Quality & Productivity Center [IQPC] will present its second Polymorphism & Crystallization Forum in Princeton, NJ, April 26-28, 2004. This conference will closely examine the science of polymorphism and crystallization, including development processes to create stable polymorphs, as well as the legal and business impact of polymorphism and crystallization on drug companies.

The conference will feature an in-depth keynote presentation by Dr. David Grant, D.Sc., William and Mildred Peters Endowed Chair in Pharmaceutics from the College of Pharmacy at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Grant will speak on the past, present and future of polymorphism and crystallization and conduct an interactive joint workshop on Crystallization and Transitions of Sulfamerazine Polymorphs.

Matthew Bye, Esq., of the Federal Trade Commission will also provide insights into the Federal Trade Commission’s role in promoting competition in the pharmaceutical industry. He will discuss the Hatch-Waxman Amendments, enforcement actions that the Commission has brought to address certain anti-competitive business practices and an industry-wide study of generic drug competition that the Commission issued in July 2002. In addition, Mr. Bye will examine the latest statutory and case law developments including reforms passed in the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003.
