ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Interlink Group, Inc. (Interlink), one of the largest Microsoft service providers in the western United States, today announced that two of its software applications are being used in conjunction with special programs for Hurricane Katrina evacuees.
Its web-based community health system, HealthTrack, is being used by both Denver Health and the El Paso County Department of Health to track and profile Katrina patients. It provides a repository to collect basic demographic information, as well as Katrina-specific data such as a person’s exposure to harmful chemicals, and details on their relocation.
“HealthTrack has become a key part of our response process,” comments Karen Williamson, Lead Systems Program Manager for the El Paso County Department of Health, the second largest Colorado county encompassing the city of Colorado Springs. “We have been fortunate to not see a major disease outbreak but this drill has helped us refine our process and now we have good, hard data for planning community access to care.” Between the health clinics, community health center, and faith-based clinics, the County has seen over 600 Katrina evacuees to date.
Denver Health is using HealthTrack to log insurance programs specific to Katrina. This will help patients who revisit the Denver Health provider system by supplying a reference as they enroll in Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance programs.
Interlink’s web-based immunization registry, VaxTrax, is another application being used by Denver Health’s Lowry Family Practice Clinic to track immunizations given to Hurricane Katrina evacuees. “Having a registry to track immunizations administered to specific populations is very helpful so that we can provide the best and most appropriate patient care and so that we can report this information as needed,” said Anne Hammer, Denver Health Immunization Nursing Program Manager.
The flexibility of the VaxTrax application allowed Denver Health to create a one-time specialty clinic within the application, named the Lowry-Katrina Evacuee Clinic, to inventory the vaccines that are received for Katrina patients and log into the system all immunizations as they are administered. Denver Health provided triage for evacuees at Lowry to determine their care needs. Depending upon exposure during and after the hurricane, tetanus and other immunizations have been necessary. To date, 220 Katrina evacuees have received a total of 355 vaccines administered at the Lowry-Katrina Evacuee Clinic and documented in VaxTrax.
Interlink’s VaxTrax is a web-based immunization registry that lowers costs and improves patient care by optimizing the use of vaccine inventories. The system is used within the Denver Health agency (in-patient, public, community, and school health) and by the organization’s roving immunization team that provides outreach clinics in the Denver Metro area. The system is a critical piece of Denver Health’s improvement goals that have seen immunizations increase from 62% to 82% in 1-year olds over the past 7 years.
