Health Dialog Shared Decision-Making(R) Video Takes Gold At 2005 National Health Information Awards

BOSTON, Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Health Dialog Services Corporation today announced that one of the company’s Shared Decision-Making(R) videos received a Gold Award at the 12th Annual National Health Information Awards (NHIA). The video, entitled “Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: Choosing Your Treatment” earned the distinction by placing in the top five percent of more than 1,000 entries submitted in this year’s awards program.

The winning Health Dialog video is part of a broad library of member support tools offered to individuals through Health Dialog’s Collaborative Care(SM) program. The Health Dialog program uses a Shared Decision-Making(R) approach, based on the research of the Foundation for Informed Medical Decision Making, which encourages individuals to take a more active role in their healthcare so they can make more informed decisions with their physicians. Health Dialog’s Shared Decision-Making(R) videos provide individuals with evidence-based, unbiased healthcare information on various conditions and treatment options.

The winning video on benign prostatic hyperplasia includes actual patient experiences and physician interviews to help individuals better understand their treatment options and facilitate discussions with their doctors. The video received a National Mature Media Award earlier this year.

“To be honored with this award is a testament to the care, dedication and time that our team invests in each Shared Decision-Making(R) video we produce,” said Bill Brennan, Senior Vice President, Content Services, Health Dialog. “These videos are the cornerstone of a process that encourages patients to understand their conditions and options so that they can become collaborative partners with their clinicians to make the best individual care choices.”

The National Health Information Awards, organized by the Health Information Resource Center(SM), is the most comprehensive awards program of its kind. Each year the NHIA recognizes the nation’s best consumer health information programs and materials. Entries for the awards include brochures, audio/video tapes, newspaper and magazine articles, books and other media, all of which are judged on content, format, success in reaching the targeted audience, and overall quality.
