HDMA Barcode Report Released, Recommends Priority List Of Drugs To Bar Code In Order To Improve Patient Safety

The Healthcare Distribution Management Association (HDMA) this week released Medication Errors and Patient Safety: The Barcode Connection, a new report that makes recommendations for barcode implementation in the hospital setting. The report focuses on the drugs most often involved in medication errors and recommends bar codes on unit-level packaging as well as standardized practices such as matching the drug with patient data as valuable patient safety measures.
