WINFIELD, Ill., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- A nationally respected organization has granted Central DuPage Hospital (CDH) accreditation for the quality of its nuclear medicine, vascular ultrasound and echocardiography laboratories, one of only five hospitals in Illinois to achieve this status. The Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) grants accreditation to laboratories demonstrating high standards in all aspects of patient care.
“In medicine, accurate test results are important to both patients and physicians and it is essential that the correct diagnosis is made quickly and efficiently. These accreditations can ensure our patients and referring physicians that our tests are the highest quality possible,” said Michael Severino, M.D., Medical Director of Non-Invasive Cardiology, CDH.
“It’s unusual for a community hospital to earn multiple accreditations for its laboratories, and we are proud to offer services on par with those found at university medical centers,” said Dr. Dennis Baker, Medical Director of Diagnostic Imaging, CDH. “We perform thousand of diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures annually at CDH, making accreditation of our laboratories a key advance for the community.”
The IAC, a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring high quality patient care, grants accreditation after an independent agency reviews techniques, experience and training of staff and diagnostic accuracy. Each accredited institution must demonstrate quality performance in patient care, ranging from state of the art equipment to extensive physician licensure, and in every aspect of daily operation and its impact on patient care, such as quality control of equipment, protocol completion and timeliness of reporting.
“Receiving national accreditation is an independent and non-biased validation of our outstanding programs,” said Dr. Michael McGill, Director of Nuclear Cardiology, CDH. CDH earned accreditation for nuclear cardiology and nuclear medicine laboratories from the Intersocietal Commission for Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories (ICANL); adult echocardiography/cardiac ultrasound laboratory from the Intersocietal Commission for Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL); and for vascular ultrasound laboratory from the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL).
“These accreditations are renewed every three years, ensuring that our laboratories will evolve with new changes and technologies, and stay a leader in providing the most advanced care to CDH patients,” said Dr. Baker.
