SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Shield of California and the Blue Shield of California Foundation today announced multiple activities across the company in support of relief efforts currently underway in the Hurricane Katrina disaster area.
Blue Shield of California and its employees have contributed approximately $125,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. The contributions are part of a nationwide $3 million fundraising drive by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, of which Blue Shield of California is a member. Blue Shield of California employee contributions were matched by the company.
In addition, the Blue Shield of California Foundation donated $25,000 to Operation USA, a California not-for-profit organization providing medical supplies to community health clinics serving survivors of Hurricane Katrina.
In addition to monetary contributions, Blue Shield employees have donated food and clothing items, as well as pints of blood, at Blue Shield employee volunteer program events throughout California.
