Vizient Experts on Quality Improvement in Health Care to Present at IHI National Forum

IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In a health care landscape that is constantly changing, making and sustaining quality improvements in patient safety and care can be challenging. IHI Quick Course: Monday, Dec. 10, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
Engaging everyone to create and sustain quality (course Q16)
Course presenters are David Munch, senior principal at Vizient, Greg Firestone, director LEAN strategies at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Sue Ballato, quality administrator at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. The course will provide a framework for sustainable continuous improvement describing the skills and behaviors required at every level of the organization and how to get there.

Workshop: Tuesday, Dec. 11, 1:30-2:45 p.m.
High-impact Leadership: Developing Core Leaders (C14)
Workshop presenters are David Munch, senior principal at Vizient and Michael Pugh, president, MPH. This workshop will explore how the IHI High-Impact Leadership Framework and associated behaviors translate to the work of core leaders and provide guidance on the competencies and skills they must develop.

Managing behavioral issues in medical settings (C24)
Workshop presenters are Tammy Williams, MSN, RN, CPPS, collaborative advisor for Vizient, Lisa Davis, BSN, MEd, RN-BC, nurse manager psychiatric nursing consultation service at VCU Health System, Samuel Stroupe, MD, deputy chief-director, psychiatrics ED/CL services at NYU Langone Brooklyn and Thomas Heinrich, physician at Medical College of Wisconsin. This workshop will feature learning from an analysis of more than 2,700 events reported to the Vizient Patient Safety Organization in 2017. Clinicians from academic medical centers will highlight common behavioral issues reported in medical settings, and the leading practices for proactive identification and management of mental health, substance use, suicidal, and aggressive patients in medical settings. Attendees will learn about systemwide approaches to managing behavioral emergencies and successful outcomes, including reductions in restraints and patient-to-staff assaults.

In addition to the presentations, Vizient will also participate in the Storyboard reception on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 4:30-6:00 p.m. on the following topics:

  • Comprehensive review of cardiac monitoring events and systematic approach to quality improvement
  • Inpatient opioid safety events: beyond a justifiable adverse drug reaction
  • Engaging patients and families in health care transformation through Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ national initiatives
