SAN DIEGO - Advantar Labs, a GLP and GMP compliant contract laboratory provider of Analytical and Formulation Development Services to Pharmaceutical, Biotech and Medical Device companies, is pleased to announce that Joe Page, Ph.D. has joined the senior management team as VP of Laboratory Operations.
“Joe is known in the Industry for his analytical and formulation expertise across all dosage forms and all molecular types,” said CEO, Rich Kenley, Ph.D. “He is truly a highly skilled individual who has built very effective teams with the right scientific balance that enabled over 30 drug candidates to reach IND, late phase clinical or commercialization during his career.”
“We are learning from our customers that many competitors fail to help them appreciate the strategic impact of formulation and analytical development choices made at the inception of a project,” said Kenley. “We are successfully changing this paradigm with our customers, one project at a time and Joe’s addition will help us to continually improve upon such offerings. For example, we find that customers with a peptide drug substance often consider that a lyophilized dosage form is required to achieve an adequate shelf-life. In reality, however, many peptides have excellent stability in solution when properly formulated. Thus, options to avoid expensive lyophilization development should be evaluated as early as possible, and Joe’s experience is critical to helping customers understand and address these alternative approaches.”
Joe will lead the planning, expansion and overall management of Advantar’s laboratory operations to ensure optimal use of equipment and people resources. He brings nearly 20 years of analytical and formulation development experience to the company, and over 11 years experience in senior lab management roles in the contract service provider industry. “Over the course of my career, I have had the good fortune to previously work with many of the people currently on the Advantar team,” said Page. “From a management standpoint, the team to date has been able to implement many procedures that increase output and make it easy to scale, while reducing potential risks of lab error ranging from unique notebook templates and streamlined SOP’s to the overall layout of the laboratory and the selection of instrumentation. I very much look forward to growing the team in step with our customers’ needs.”
Joe Page, Ph.D. was previously Director, Product Formulation and Analytical Services with Catalent from 2007-2010 and Director of Pharmaceutical Analysis with Cardinal Health (formerly Magellan) from 1999-2007. From 1992 to 1999, he held senior scientist roles with Alliance Pharmaceuticals and Hybritech. Joe earned his Ph.D. in Physical Organic Chemistry from University of Washington, Seattle and completed a Post-doc Fellowship in Protein Chemistry from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.
